A compelling example was a task in The Artists Way. The task is to write a list of clothes you need. I think I got 3 or 4 out of 10 literally in the same week simply by being offered them. I didn’t even have to look or ask! I even got a pair of (never been worn) brown tights, which to me is striking because it’s very specific and not the kind of thing that people usually give away.
Another time was when I was flat-hunting and I wrote a list of elements I’d really like regarding where I’d be living and that one was spooky. It was something like 7 out of 10 points applied to the place I found, including trees directly outside on both sides and a nice friendly neighbor. This was all the more amazing as I only viewed two places!
The most recent time was based on a Ted talk (I think?) where you make a drawing of how your life looks now on one half of the page and how you want it to be on the other half. I came across that drawing again recently and when I looked at it I did see that my life was a lot more like the future (now present) me than the current (now past) me.
Believe what you will and I realize that my examples are somewhat vague and not at all empirical. However, there are some obvious reasons why letters to the universe, wish lists or vision drawings might come true.
If you can get it on paper it’s clear in your mind.
If it’s clear in your mind:
- You know what you are looking for.
- You can recognize it when you see it.
- You’re more likely to believe it’s for you.
So much of our lives are spent striving, searching and trying for what we want and we can make that easier simply by being very clear on what we are striving, searching and trying for. It can be restful to go with the flow but even the calmest stream can be navigated a little with a gentle hand in the water.
I invite you to give it a try!
Write down or draw how you’ve love your life to be. Put it away. Dig it out 6 months later. What do you see?
